A Brief History."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mudhutstudiosonline.com\/Wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/FIREPLACE-FINAL.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-159\" alt=\"FIREPLACE FINAL\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mudhutstudiosonline.com\/Wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/FIREPLACE-FINAL.jpg\" width=\"281\" height=\"148\" \/><\/a>How far back in time would we have to travel to find our families gathered around a fire?\u00a0 It\u00a0would have been a near daily occurrence. fire had warmth, light and\u00a0was basically the stove.\u00a0\u00a0As education became more\u00a0common, male\u00a0family members may have taken turns reading from the bible or borrowed novels\u00a0by fire light.\u00a0 Eventually even the girls were allowed to go to school, and they participated.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not too hard to\u00a0visualize this picture.\u00a0 If we haven&#8217;t been camping, we&#8217;ve certainly seen\u00a0examples of early living in\u00a0movies.\u00a0 Versions of this family gathering\u00a0played for centuries around the\u00a0globe and it certainly\u00a0still exists today\u00a0in much of the third world.<\/p>\n<p>Urban homes began installing electricity\u00a0in the early decades of the 20th century.\u00a0 The first radio broadcast was in 1920 and by 1922 there were 600 radio stations.\u00a0 While probably in the same room as the fire place (central heating\u00a0didn&#8217;t become a common goal\u00a0until the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mudhutstudiosonline.com\/Wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RADIO.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-160\" alt=\"RADIO\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mudhutstudiosonline.com\/Wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RADIO.jpg\" width=\"301\" height=\"148\" \/><\/a>1930&#8217;s), the radio caused\u00a0the family to lean in together to\u00a0hear the static, words, and music.\u00a0 The radio had\u00a0replaced the fire as the central gathering point.<\/p>\n<p>In the 1950&#8217;s\u00a0the television replaced the hulking radios in the family room.\u00a0\u00a0We moved as a group from the dinner table\u00a0to watch Gunsmoke. \u00a0Whether\u00a0we really liked the programming or not was irrelevent.\u00a0 The TV was the new fire and like the vacuum tube radio technology before it, you could even say it glowed&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Whether the family gatherings were mandatory or not\u00a0could be argued, but it\u00a0was probably punishment to be banished from them.<\/p>\n<p>Today, If your family consistently\u00a0 eats together around a table, I congratulate you.\u00a0 If you move en\u00a0masse to a\u00a0family room, I envy you.\u00a0 If by chance\u00a0you then regularly carry on meaningful conversations, I gape at you.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone has their own TV; we can access the world from any room in\u00a0our\u00a0home via wireless link; and if you&#8217;re reading this, I guarantee that you have used electronics to communicate with another member of your household who was somewhere in the same living space.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the undeniable irony;\u00a0\u00a0We are more connected now than ever before.\u00a0\u00a0Despite the weirdness of texting someone in the same house, it doesn&#8217;t matter whether they&#8217;re even in the same state.\u00a0 It\u00a0feels the same&#8230;
