Traditionally Non-Profit organizations produced media (video)\u00a0for one-time events like galas, fundraisers, TV campaigns, or other \u00a0similar situations.\u00a0 These “movies” were expensive,\u00a0\u00a0Video\u00a0firms\u00a0set up booths at Non-Con (I just made that up) and quoted some pretty hefty five figure numbers.\u00a0 There was an entire sub-industry of production companies that traveled around making these films.\u00a0\u00a0 Unfortunately, the\u00a0productions\u00a0generally didn’t have an ROI that made them popular.\u00a0 They were often\u00a0shown only at\u00a0a single event or a few other\u00a0fundraising meetings.\u00a0 The last time most Non-Profit organizations updated their media was when the director said, “Our VHS machine broke, so we need a new video on DVD”.\u00a0 Whether the organization\u00a0sent home a VHS or DVD is irrelevant, the only machine it probably\u00a0saw\u00a0was the crusher inside of a garbage truck.<\/p>\n
Ironically, the stories of hope that these agencies\u00a0can tell are boundless.\u00a0 I simply can’t think of another industry that offers so many\u00a0opportunities to document improvements in people’s lives.<\/p>\n
Here are a\u00a0few thoughts…<\/p>\n
It’s never been more important for Non-Profits to market themselves and\u00a0it’s never been cheaper.\u00a0 The Non-Profit agencies\u00a0should be producing regular content for two very important reasons.<\/p>\n
Whenever I present these concepts to my clients, I say, “Don’t run back to the office and put social media on the agenda for the staff meeting\u00a0next\u00a0week.\u00a0 Put it on\u00a0the agenda\u00a0and never<\/strong> take it off.”\u00a0 At a minimum, do\u00a0short web-cam updates once a month…or simple depictions of\u00a0industry statistics.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
